To guarantee a standard nomenclature, data collection is based on definition data. Predefined lists of properties and characteristics ensure univocal  denomination for equal facts. In addition properties of graphical representations can be defined witch the definition data, leading to homogenous representations over all graphical evaluations. For example, if you define definition data for lithology, there might be the entry "granite". After defining the graphical options, granite will always be depicted in that way, No matter what evaluation you choose.

The very special field Geology is coverd by several Themes in 2DOC. The flagship of this theme domain is the Geological documentation headingface, that facilitates an extensive documentation of measured and identified geologic parameters of the heading face. Lithological features, rock characteristics, discontinuities, water afflux and hydrology can also be covered.

An other theme offers the possibilities for documenting the tunnel wall. Similar to the headingface documentation recording of lithology, hydrology, rock samples, discontinuities, together of course with pictures made in the tunnel and much more is possible.

Other Themes offer comfortable facilities for collectionof RMR-values, Risk levels, Hazard scenarios and much more.

All the geological content can be evaluated in tunneltapes, charts, site plans, special analysis and 3D models. Especially in comparison with data from other disciplines such evaluation offer new insights into the data collected.

Geological documentation headingface

Digitalisierung der Ortsbrustskizze in 2DOCThis theme is used for documentation and evaluation of geological attributes of the heading face. Besides general descriptions the user can input data for lithology, discontinuities, hydrology, rock samples (together with detailed analysis results) and a lot more. 2doc provides the possibility to import and digitize heading face sketches - that way the main aspects of the sketch can be transformed into queryable digital information, i.e. the areas of the documented lithological units on the heading face can be calculated automatically by 2doc using data provided by the digitalization. Furthermore 2doc automatically generates intersection lines (Structural data, Lithology) as construction basis for geological horizontal and vertical sections.

Geological homogenous regions

With this theme areas of similar geological conditions can be defined along the axis of the tunnel. The type of the homogeneous division as well as the characteristics associated with that type can be freely defined by the user. Applications of this theme are numerous i. e. it can be used for recording tectonical or lithological units or for recording hydrological homogeneous divisions. Other data collected in 2doc can be evaluated with respect to these homogeneous divisions. A good example would be the evaluation of fabric data as great circle diagrams in the 2doc tunnel tape where all discontinuities within a defined homogeneous division can be shown in one diagram.

Geological descriptions

The theme geological descriptions allows the description of geological features that are related to larger sections along the tunnel axis. I.e. the theme can be used to document rock mass or bedrock but can also be used to describe other characteristics like the prognosed influence on a parallel tunnel etc. A main field of application of this theme is the documentation of geological features coming out of the prognosis documents. This way the prognosis data can be juxtaposed with the actual condition documented while driving the tunnel (for instance from the theme geological heading face documentation). Each documented section can be classified using a type and a characteristic within that type complemented by descriptive text and external documents.

Geological tunnel wall documentation

Dokumentation vor Horizontal- und Vertikalschnitten in 2DOCAnalog to the geological heading face documentation this theme can be used to document the tunnel wall of sections along the tunnel axis. Thereby 2doc provides three different ways of documentation: Documentation of horizontal or vertical sections, documentation of the unwinded tunnel wall as well as the documentation of projection planes. Besides general descriptions the user can input data for lithology, discontinuities, hydrology, rock samples (together with detailed analysis results) and a lot more. From the tunnel axis the assigned profile 2doc calculates the shape of the documented plane. This way sketches done on paper can be scanned and imported and georeferenced directly in 2doc. As with the theme geological heading face documentation input forms and reports can be adapted to the specific geological environment of the tunneling project. This allows an efficient collection and adapted presentation of data.

RMR Classification

Dokumentation von RMR-Messungen in 2DOCThe theme RMR Classification is used for documenting the properties of bedrock according to the classification of Bieniawski. 2doc allows a simple and efficient collection of the RMR parameters for sections along the tunnel axis. The calculation of the associated indices is done automatically. For specific adaption of the Bienawski classification to the geological environment 2doc provides appropriate configuration possibilities that modify the weighting of the classes when calculating the index.

Risk levels
Documentation of defined risk levels can be an important component of the overall documentation of the tunneling project especially in contractual situations where risk levels take influence on the compensation of costs. 2doc allows the definition of risk types (like geomechanical risks, risks of human health etc) and their characteristics (i.e. geomechanical risk level, safety classes). Besides this classification data can be completed with descriptive texts, images and external documents.

Hazard scenarios
The Theme Exposure serves for the documentation of potential geotechnical risks in the tunnel. Analog to the theme Risk levels different types of danger as well as the specific characteristics for that type can be freely defined by the user. As with almost all other themes in 2doc, documentation of danger potential can be done for sections along the tunnel axis and can be associated with different building phases. Especially in connection with support measures this theme is a valuable source for evaluation and traceability of decisions made.

Heading face orthophotos

Digitalisierung der Ortsbrustskizze in 2DOCIf orthophotos - that are georeferenced deskewed digital images - of the heading face are available, these photos can be integrated in 2doc by the use of this theme. The photos are stored georeferenced in the 2doc database and can therefore optionally be used as background image in different visualizations. A prominent example would be the presentation of the vector diagram in the theme 3D subsurface measurement that allows the display of heading face orthophotos. This way the geological situation at the specific position in the tunnel can be presented alongside the movement of the measuring points - a valuable input for interpretation of the collected data.
