Multiuser capability is a central requirement for a data management system. 2DOC is based on a client-server model with the 2DOC database as ist core. All installed 2DOC clients have access to this database, so the current data are always available to every 2DOC users. Beside access via LAN, there is also the possibility to access 2DOC from outside the local network via web and encrypted connection.

To protect data against any accidental or illicit manipulation, a a multi-user system definitely requires a sophisticated authorization system. To map the scopes of responsibility at the building site, this system also hast o be flexible and adaptable. 2DOCs authorization system is based on the user administration and allows to grant different privileges to every user.  Several types of privileges are available to ensure the possibility of defining an authorization model for accessing the 2DOC database which is adequate and adapted to the very needs oft the building site.

Access to the stored data is granted (or denied) per theme. Also within one theme a distinction is made between themedata and definition data for that theme. So one user may have grants to set up lithology definition data, an other user has only authorization for documentation based on the predefined definition data.
